Gary Lowe

A self taught woodturner, Gary makes the majority of his turnings from locally sourced timber, although some exotic timbers are bought in as imports for that special job. All my inspiration starts from a rough idea, no plans, and then I let the beauty of the wood decide the final shape.

All turned items are made in my workshop (single garage) in Elgin, Moray, in which I like to turn a wide variety of pieces from large bowls and vases to small and delicate items and also presentation trophies.

All items are one offs as very rarely will you get two pieces of timber identical, even from the same log. I sell my work at local craft fairs organised by the Speyside Artisans, Moray Arts in Elgin and by personal commission.

As the chairperson of the local woodturning club, I am happy to pass on my knowledge and experience (and even some secrets) to all who are willing to listen and learn.
